The Future of Promotions

December 16th, 2009

Anderson brothers look to the future

Brothers, Kevin and Steve Anderson, founders of KeepMe Promotions, have seen their

company achieve enormous growth since it opened in 2004. In fact so marked has their

progress been in the last four years that the company now employs 15 people in its

London office, 30 at its plant in Istanbul and another 200 at its facility in Calcutta. With

an ever-expanding design and manufacturing plant in China recently added to the

portfolio, the scale of the progress has been remarkable.

Steve believes there are two key reasons for this extraordinary success: “Firstly, we know

our market intimately. We know what sells because we know what works for our clients.

And secondly, we design and build all our own products and that means that we are

completely non-reliant on external UK manufacturers. There are no middlemen to pay

because we control our own production, so we can always ensure the client gets a more

effective product at a more accessible price.”

Among its most successful products to date has been the cotton bag. As wasteful plastic

bags have become increasingly stigmatised, re-useable cotton has seen enormous growth,

with clients discovering that these ecologically sound products can also make very

practical marketing tools. In fact, the cotton bag has now become so successful that

KeepMe’s Calcutta plant currently produces around half a million units per month.

But it’s about more than just re-useable bags. KeepMe’s Chinese factory has enabled big

growth in other eco-friendly promotional items, including recycled pens, notepads,

lanyards and a range of USB sticks that are built from materials as diverse and

imaginative as polypropylene, paper, wood, metal and leather.

Steve recognises that this kind of ingenuity is vital for continued success: “A really good

promotional tool needs to capture the public’s imagination and that means you have to

strive to produce a desirable product from a sustainable material at an accessible price.

Instead of a plastic biro, how about a branded pen made of corn? Instead of a paper

brochure, how about a re-useable USB drive made of bamboo? With a bit of imagination,

the future becomes very exciting . . .”

With its overseas facilities firing on all cylinders and its design teams working around the

clock, KeepMe Promotions is well placed to ensure that the next four years of

promotional solutions proves just as productive.

The secret of success for products at events

December 16th, 2009

Gift packs from KeepMe Promotions

High-profile events are expensive. But you obviously need to promote your product to

the right people so you make the investment. What you then need to do is make sure you

get the best possible return on that investment – and one of the most effective tools at

your disposal is a promotional gift pack.

With a comprehensive range of promotional products, an arsenal of modern eco-friendly

materials and the application of cutting edge creativity in the design process, KeepMe

Promotions is ideally placed to provide that.

Steve Anderson, joint MD at KeepMe Promotions, explains: “The perfect promotional

product for a high-profile event needs to satisfy three essential criteria. It needs to be

sufficiently affordable for you to give it away; it needs to be perceived as an object of

value, so the recipient is keen to accept it and happy to use it; and it needs to carry the

right message away from your stand and into the public arena. Our products are now in a

position to achieve all three of these things . . .”

The bag

First up is the branded bag. KeepMe Promotions produces robust, attractive, re-useable

bags in either cotton or non woven polypropylene. These products are degradable, non-

toxic and printed using only water-based inks. And there is no sacrificing of practicality

here, because they are also 100 per cent recyclable and sufficiently robust to be used

indefinitely. The bags come in a variety of colours and sizes and can be custom-printed to

promote your company brand in a very modern and effective way.

Lead times - from as little as ten days

Example prices - 500 printed cotton bags from 51p per bag

Steve says – “These bags are extremely durable and can be re-used over extended

periods. The extra profile that this regularity of use gives you makes these products very

easy to justify in terms of cost.”

The pen

Having established a new office in Shenzen, China, the first of ten new environmentally

sound products, recently commissioned by KeepMe Promotions, is a recycled pen. Made

from stiff, compacted recycled paper with a wooden clip and recycled plastic trim, it has

plenty of space on the shaft for easy branding, plus the price advantage that the Chinese

manufacturing plant brings. It comes in red, green, black and blue ink, with nib and clip

colours to match.

Lead times - three weeks

Example prices – 39p per unit for 1,000; 21p per unit for 20,000

Steve says - “The recycled pen is a good example of our ‘raw’ ethos. We want the product

to clearly state that it is recycled without us having to say it – and that reflects very well

on our clients.”

The notepad

It’s not just bags that polypropylene can be used for. KeepMe Promotions is also

producing notebooks and folders from the same material. Again, bespoke sizes are

available and you can also take advantage of a free in-house design service, allowing you

to tailor the product to suit your business needs. The cover surface is well suited for

vibrant, long lasting logos.

Lead times – from three weeks

Example prices – 500 printed notepads from £2.20 per pad

Steve says – “Polypropylene is a great material for events gift packs. It looks and feels

very high quality and yet its low price, versatility and ecological sustainability make it a

very practical choice.”

The digital brochure

The USB stick is another excellent product for a gift pack at an event. The relative

simplicity of the manufacturing process makes it cost-effective to buy in bulk and quick

in terms of lead times. It is also very easy to customise, allowing you not just to pre-load

it with your company information, but also to adapt its shape, design and packaging

according to your target audience. You can now offer your digital brochure in the form of

a card that fits in your wallet or even as a rubberised wrist band. It saves on the bulk and

cost of a printed document, adds greatly to your company’s green credentials and appeals

to the modern outlook of the exhibition visitor.

Lead times – from two weeks (otherwise, a 48-hour express service is available)

Example prices – 500 printed 128mb units for £2.04; 500 printed 1Gb units for £2.66

Steve says – “A desirable little gadget like a USB device allows you to incorporate more

exciting, interactive features into your company’s promotional pitch, like product

demonstrations and web links.”

The upshot

KeepMe Promotions is ideally placed to offer a gift pack that makes a big impact for your

company and yet remains affordable. The sheer range of modern sustainable materials at

KeepMe’s disposal includes cotton, polypropylene, recycled plastic, paper, wood, metal,

leather, bamboo and even corn. For more information or to discuss an order, call the team

at KeepMe Promotions and make the most of your events investment.

Pen Drives Promotion

December 16th, 2009

Keepme drives forward

KeepMe Promotions, the company famous for championing re-useable alternatives to

plastic bags, has expanded its range of promotional USB pen drives.

The logic behind the move is simple. There are now more than 100 million broadband

connections worldwide. And that means that, not only are more companies than ever

adapting their marketing plans to incorporate online activity, but the general public is also

increasingly comfortable with absorbing promotional material in digital format.

In an environment like this, the humble USB stick enjoys plenty of benefits. For a start, it

is relatively cheap, easy and quick to manufacture so it is cost-effective to buy in bulk

and enjoys lead times from as little as just 48 hours. It is also very easy to customise for

the client, not just in terms of its internal content (like brochures, demonstration videos

and web links), but also in terms of its external design and packaging.

As well as USB sticks made from recycled plastic, Keepme Promotions can now offer

devices made from wood, polypropylene, metal, leather and even bamboo. And while

once, the stick was just an object you carried in your pocket, now it can be produced in

the form of a key ring, a calculator, a card to fit in your wallet, a pen or even a rubberised

bracelet.

In short, if a pen drive is designed with imagination, manufactured with ecological

respect and loaded with the kind of information that the user values, it is not just an item

of enormous perceived value but also an item of great practical use – both to the promoter

and to the recipient.

Steve Anderson, Joint MD at Keepme Promotions, is well aware that as our comfort with

alternative formats improves, the need to make products like USB devices more personal

and engaging is vital: “The extent of our USB product range and our continuous

investment in product development will ensure the USB stick remains a staple product

within business and the number one promotional giveaway item.”

Trees for Life

December 16th, 2009

KeepMe green

KeepMe Bags, one of the largest providers of re-useable packaging in the UK, has

become famous for offering a viable alternative to plastic bags through the use of

sustainable materials like cotton and polypropylene. But what is less well known is the

fact that the company plants a tree for every order it receives for a custom-printed bag or

box. And every time it does so, it also provides the client with a personalised certificate

to testify to the sustainability of its business choice.

Trees for Life, the company commissioned by KeepMe Bags for the planting of trees,

began in 1981 as a local solution to the global problem of deforestation. One core aspect

of its work is assisting in the natural regeneration of the Caledonian Forest, which once

covered a large area of the Scottish highlands. The ultimate aim is to establish a fresh and

sustainable area of 600 square miles in the north-central Highlands and to help bring

about the associated reintroduction of various missing species of wildlife, such as beaver

and wild boar.

It seems to be working. Since 1989, more than half a million native trees have been

planted and Steve Anderson, joint MD at KeepMe Bags, is content that his clients remain

very positive about this added ecological benefit of investing in re-useable bags: “It is a

continued pleasure working with Trees for Life because it enables us to put something

back into the environment. Our clients are very excited about this initiative, with many

proudly displaying their certificates in their main reception areas”

It is further illustration that KeepMe Bags is fostering a culture of recycling, re-use and

regeneration that goes right to the heart of everything it does. The company is welcoming

commissions right now, so get a tree planted and claim your certificate with a custom

order from KeepMe Bags . . .

Polypropylene Takes the Limelight

December 16th, 2009

Eco PP from KeepMe Bags

KeepMe Bags has long been a frontrunner in the move towards cotton as the material of

choice for the manufacturing of re-useable bags. In fact, in the past two years alone, its

manufacturing and distribution of cotton bags for UK businesses has more than doubled.

But while cotton has been stealing the limelight, another environmentally friendly

material has been starting to make waves. Eco-PP, or spun-bonded polypropylene, is not

just extremely durable, but also degradable, 100 per cent recyclable and entirely non-

toxic. Bags made from this new generation material are constructed using very clean and

energy-efficient manufacturing processes too, which not only makes them surprisingly

affordable but also ethically outstanding.

They even look good. The integrity of the polypropylene surface means they can be

printed using water-based inks and yet they remain flame-retardant and permeable. The

bags come in a variety of colours and sizes and can be custom-printed to promote your

company brand in a very modern and effective way.

It’s not just bags that polypropylene can be used for. KeepMe Promotion is also

producing notebooks and folders from the same material. Again, bespoke sizes are

available and you can even take advantage of a free in-house design service, allowing

you to tailor the product to suit the needs of your business.

Steve Anderson, joint MD at KeepMe Bags, is plainly excited about the versatility of Eco

PP: “The bags are a very affordable option and offer our clients a bespoke service,

enabling them to dictate the size, colour and branding. And with almost a 100 per cent

print area, the strength of these bags cannot be underestimated.”

Polypropylene is a very exciting modern material for businesses looking to combine self-

promotion and environmental responsibility. Like cotton, it satisfies those essential three

Rs – it is robust, it is reuseable and it is recyclable. And with minimum orders from just

1000 bags and lead times from as little as four weeks, it is more accessible now than it

has ever been.

Keepme Launches Wooden USBs

December 16th, 2009

Wood you?

KeepMe Promotions has a novel attitude to USB sticks. It already offers devices made

from recycled plastic, polypropylene, metal, leather and rubber, in formats as diverse and

engaging as calculators, cards, pens and bracelets. But now, the company is adding a

more organic and traditional option to the mix with a fresh line-up of wooden USB sticks.

Steve Anderson, Joint MD at Keepme Promotions, is quick to stress the importance of the

new line: “The USB stick remains the number one promotional giveaway item and with

good reason. A modern marketing campaign needs to incorporate online activity, so the

chance to package your company brochure in a digital format, while embracing the

organic style and ecological integrity of wood, can be extremely effective.”

The wooden USB stick is simple to build, giving it lead times from as little as 48 hours

and prices much lower than its usefulness would suggest. It is also lends itself very well

to targeted promotion. Not only can you load it with your company brochure, complete

with demos and web links, but you can also design the exterior and the packaging with

whatever graphics best suit your needs.

There are currently 23 wooden models in the new product line and, like the rest of the

range, they come in all shapes and sizes. For more information, to browse the options or

Ten Green Products from KeepMe

December 16th, 2009

Having established a new office in China, KeepMe Promotions, the company famous for

championing re-useable alternatives to plastic bags, has commissioned its overseas

designers to produce a range of ten new eco-friendly products. And the first those ten

inventions has now arrived in the UK . . .

KeepMe’s new green pen is made from stiff, compacted recycled paper with a wooden

‘lolly-stick’ style clip and recycled plastic trim. The prototype might look a touch

uninspiring but, with plenty of space on the shaft for easy branding, plus the price

advantage that the Chinese side of the business brings, it satisfies that most vital

requirement of any successful green product: it makes sustainability both practical and

cost-effective.

Steve Anderson, joint MD of KeepMe Bags, is confident that, by tapping into a fresh

source of ingenuity through the commissioning of his Chinese designers, this starter for

ten is the beginning of good things: “Our ten products will initially be chosen on their

green credentials, but further selection will be based on the product’s appearance. We are

trying to bring on ‘raw’ looking products that clearly state they are recycled without us

having to say it. We use natural product colours and unrefined finishes to express the fact

that they are ecologically sound.”

KeepMe launches new website…

May 5th, 2009

KeepMe Bags’ range of products has radically expanded in the last couple of years.

Clients can now choose from paper bags, kraft bags, jute bags, cotton bags, canvas

bags and non-woven pp bags. They can choose the shape, the colour and the artwork.

And, depending on the product they select, they can even pick from a range of

additional extras like metal eyelets, ribbon handles, upmarket embossing and printing

of the bag interior.

Naturally then, the need to simplify and streamline the company’s website has

become a vital element in making the buying process as efficient and informative as

possible. Steve Anderson, joint MD of KeepMe Bags, explains: “Every business is

different, so we need to offer genuine variety and a range of customising options to

help encompass that. But while we provide this flexibility, we need to guard against

complication and that’s exactly what the website is all about. It’s a common ground

that allows us and the client to communicate better. The client can know nothing at

all about promotional bags but with a quick look at the website and a phone call to

us, he can discuss his options from a better informed position.”

To that end, the new site is split into three basic product sections – the stock range, the

custom range and the box range. The browser just clicks on the kind of bag he is

interested in and the size and colour options are laid out in plain English. There is also

a bullet point breakdown of data vital to the buying process like lead times, minimum

order volumes and explanations of what is included in the quoted price.

Having picked a bag material, the client can then use the site to browse the sizes and

shapes, as well as the colours and print areas. To help the process along, he can even

request a sample bag to help him see exactly how the finished item will look and feel.

If he then wishes to go ahead with an order, he sends his artwork to KeepMe and the

team produces a design for him to approve before the bags are printed and delivered.

Despite the efficiency of the new website, Mr Anderson is keen to point out that it is

not a replacement for human support: “We still provide a personal service, with a

dedicated in-house design team to help walk our clients through the process. But this

new site is a response to our customers’ demands for information at their fingertips.

What we’ve essentially done here is make quite an involved process very simple.

We’ve established a dual system of online information and in-house support that is

not only very efficient but also great fun for our clients to use.”

As well as being a purchasing tool, the new website is also a platform for

understanding more about what makes modern re-useable bags so good. Have you

ever wondered how the bags are put together? Have you ever wondered where the

cotton comes from? Or why the paper option is superior to plastic? It’s all made plain

on the new site as Mr Anderson explains: “We’re very proud of our re-useable bags

and we want people to know why they’re so special. Yes, you can specify your

requirements, get samples and place an order. But more importantly, you can see

exactly what the KeepMe Bags ethos is all about and know exactly what it is you are

buying. With that kind of information at their disposal, I am convinced our client’s

appreciation for KeepMe’s re-useable bags will reach new heights.”

Public Sector embraces KeepMe Bags…

May 3rd, 2009

KeepMe Bags, the company famous for its reinvention of the re-useable bag, has seen

great success since its foundation in 2004 – and, given the plummeting appeal of the

throwaway plastic bag and the soaring popularity of eco-friendly alternatives, that has

been to some degree inevitable. But one area in which the spiraling increase in re-useable

bags has been particularly acute is that of the public sector . . .

More than any other area of business, the public sector has to consider the state of the

modern public consciousness in making its promotional choices. And, as our collective

green sensibilities develop, that means embracing ecological sustainability as a core

ethic. Steve Anderson, joint MD at KeepMe Bags, explains: “Public sector organisations

are in the unique position of delivering goods and services on behalf of the government,

through funding drawn, at least in part, from taxes paid by the likes of you and me. As a

result, the mantle of accountability weighs very heavily on the way they do business. They

can’t merely do a good job. They have to be seen to do a good job, in a way that is

explicit and well received by those of us who feel we have a stake in their operation. With

their self-evident sustainability, products like our cotton bags play a vital role in

achieving that.”

Even so, for public sector organisations it’s not just the integrity of a promotional product

that counts but the integrity of the supplier behind it – and as an ISO 9001 accredited

company, KeepMe is ideally placed to instill that confidence. Although it’s a relatively

new company, it is already one of the largest suppliers in the UK, with design and

manufacturing plants in India, China and Turkey and a range of happy customers,

ranging from high-profile commercial clients like Jamie Oliver to recipients of charitable

donations like Mencap and Meningitis UK.

But, given the importance of achieving demonstrable results from their investments,

another vital requirement for public sector business is control over the design process -

and with increased variety in the product range and upscaled production volumes,

KeepMe’s modern line-up is deliberately configured to provide that. By using the

interactive website you can specify the shape, the size, the handle length and the colour

of the bag you want. You can then work hand in hand with the in-house design team to

customise that bag to your exact requirements, allowing you complete autonomy over the

final decision before committing to an order.

Ultimately though, whether in the private or public sector, it’s the effectiveness of the

product that drives sales and Keepme’s re-useable cotton bags make more sense than

anything else on the market. They are biodegradable, non-toxic and printed using only

water-based inks. They are also 100 per cent recyclable and sufficiently robust to be re-

used indefinitely, radically improving effectiveness through positive repeat exposure.

Mr Anderson concludes: “The public sector has a responsibility to make the right

promotional choice in terms of quality, impact, ethical integrity and commercial sense. In

all respects, our cotton bags hit the mark.” With lead times from seven days, prices from

46p and cotton orders that have increased almost five-fold in the last six months, it’s

difficult to argue with that . . .

The principles of effective desktop promotions…

May 1st, 2009

Steve Anderson (KeepMe MD) on the value for money behind a good desktop product:

“Modern promotions permeate every aspect of our lives. And yet there a very few

promotional items that are in a position to engage such a captive audience as those

that appear on our desktops. Whether it’s a pen, a mouse mat, a USB drive or a desk

tidy, the sheer volume of exposure achieved by a good branded desktop product can

be out of all proportion to the cost involved in putting it there.”

Steve on making desktop products work effectively in a campaign:

“It’s always frustrating when an agency or client comes to us with a contingency

budget and ties in some promotional merchandise right at the end of a campaign.

They are of value even then but, if used correctly, integrated in the right way and,

most importantly put in place early on, at the planning stages, these products can

play a far more important part in a successful campaign.

“A good example of this is the USB key. Used as a standalone product it will make a

perfectly fine branded gift and there is undoubtedly some value to that. But if you get

us involved at the beginning, a huge amount of targeted content can be loaded onto

the device, enabling the brand to interact with the user in a variety of creative ways.”

Steve on the value of green ethics in a promotional product:

“I got into the business of re-useable products because I knew that the market would

demand a provider of promotional products with added ‘eco-friendly’ value. The last

five years has proven that to be the case. Using an ethically sound desktop item to

carry your company message doesn’t just promote your brand. It promotes your

company ethos – and in the modern business environment, that is absolutely vital.”

Steve on the increasing ingenuity of his modern desktop products:

“Our new manufacturing plant in Shenzen, China, has enabled big growth in the

diversity of the our desktop products. As well as the standard range of recycled pens,

notepads and lanyards, KeepMe now offers a range of USB sticks that are built from

materials as diverse and imaginative as polypropylene, paper, wood, metal, leather

and bamboo. Our clients can go even further too, choosing from a range of USB

rechargeable batteries, Skype phones, mini speakers, folders, USB hubs, Bluetooth

dongles, USB charger kits and laser pen flash drives. Every one of these items can be

tailored to the client’s needs, branded with the client’s customised graphics and

worked into a campaign at prices unimaginable just five years ago.”

Steve on the importance of a creative mind in desktop gadgetry:

“A really good promotional tool needs to capture the public’s imagination and that

means you have to strive to produce a desirable product from a sustainable material

at an accessible price. Instead of a plastic biro, how about a branded pen made of

corn? Instead of a paper brochure, how about a re-useable USB drive made of

bamboo? With a bit of imagination, a desktop can become a very exciting and

potently branded environment . . .”
